Schwinn Free Runner Review
The Price – This Schwinn Jogging Stroller is basically a mirror image of the higher end, higher priced running strollers made with less expensive materials. The price is extremely affordable, and worth every penny. Okay….. so the material may not be as plush as the Bob Ironman, or the canopy may sound a bit like unfolding paper when you open it up……NEWSFLASH, you get what you pay for. This Schwinn Jogging Stroller WILL accommodate your every fitness and recreational need. It WILL keep your little one safe and secure. Whether you’re taking an easy stroll through the park, or training for a serious 10k, the Schwinn Free Runner gets the job done without breaking the bank.
Adjustable Handle Bar – You can’t find this feature on most high-priced running strollers. It’s extremely handy. We all have our own personal preference when it comes to running, so having the ability to adjust the handle bar gives you that much more comfort. So, if you’re taller than average, or shorter than average, you’re really going to appreciate this feature.
Sun Shade – This Schwinn Jogging Stroller offers plenty of protection from the sun. The sunshade adjusts to multiple positions, and had a nice clear viewing window on the top. Plus, you can detach it from the back and it will rotate all the way down to the seat. Huge plus!
Parent Tray – Once again, you’d be hard pressed to find this feature on a high-priced running stroller. You’d have to pay extra for it. This Schwinn Jogging Stroller offers one cup holder, and a storage compartment.
Reclining Seat – As I said, the Schwinn Free Runner comes with everything you need, even the padded, reclining seat. It doesn’t recline to a flat position, but it’s less than a 45 degree angle.
Internal Storage – You also get little pockets on the inside of the seat which can be used for your child’s snacks, toys, or drinks.
What I Don’t Like
Weight Capacity – You can only use this Schwinn Jogging Stroller up to 50 pounds, which is about 20 pounds less than the BOB Sport Utility.
Under-Seat Storage Basket – It’s not attached to the back of the frame, so even though it’s a nice size, if you put anything in it, it drags. Some reviewers fixed this by tying a cord to the back for support.
Cumbersome When Folded – Once folded, this Schwinn Jogging Stroller takes up a lot of room. It also doesn’t have a fold lock to keep it closed.
As far as customer feedback goes, the Schwinn Free Runner did pretty good, not great, but good. With 40 out of 54 reviewers rating it 4 to 5 stars, that’s a 74% customer satisfaction rating. Most of the reviewers really seemed to love it, saying that it’s a great running stroller for a great price. The most loved features were definitely the sun shade, the parent tray and internal pockets, and the fact that it’s easy to push and the ride is smooth. Also, there were several comments about how handy the adjustable handle bar was.
Most of the complaints I found mirrored my own. The only other complaints were regarding the parent tray storage compartment, a few issues with tracking, and a few issues with the tire tubes.
The parent tray storage compartment does not have a lid, so if you plan on running down a bumpy road, make sure you don’t lose your keys.
As for the tracking issue, some of the reviewers notice that their Schwinn Jogging Stroller veered left instead of straight. There are some adjustments that can be made to fix this problem, in fact several reviewers commented on how quick and easy it was. However, there were a couple of the reviewers that were unable to get it adjusted correctly.
Now for the tubes. Here’s the thing. The Schwinn Free Runner is a discontinued product. I believe they actually started manufacturing it back in 2006, so if you think about it, it may have been sitting around in a warehouse for the past 4 or 5 years. Rubber tubes will eventually start to break down over a long period of time. Having said that, a couple reviewers had some issues with the tubes being worn out before they had a chance to use them. So, if you purchase the Schwinn Free Runner, air up the tires, let some time pass, and check them before you make your first run. Like I said, only a couple of the reviewers complained about this, but if you do indeed notice a leaking problem, call Pacific Cycle, and they will send you new tubes for free.
