If you’re looking for the best jogging stroller with a swivel wheel, and you’ve narrowed it down to just two jogging strollers, you’re already ahead of the game. Today’s market is flooded with so many different models and styles of jogging strollers, with so many different features, it’s hard to know what’s what. It all comes down to picking and choosing which features are most important to you.
I like to offer comparison reviews, mainly because when I’m interested in a product , it’s very rare that just one stands out, there could be 4 or 5, and if I’m lucky, only two. By comparing those two products side by side, I can determine which is the for me. So, if you just happen to be stuck between the Joovy Zoom 360 Jogging Stroller and the InStep Grand Safari Swivel Wheel Jogger, I can help you with your decision.
First of all, let’s take a look at what these two top rated jogging strollers have in common. Both the Joovy Zoom 360 and the InStep Grand Safari offer 16-inch rear pneumatic tires and a 12-inch front, locking swivel wheel. The Joovy Zoom design includes alloy rims, where as the InStep design includes molded rims (which seems to be a type of plastic). Both designs also include a parking brake, protective sun canopies (although the Joovy’s seems much larger), storage baskets, and a quick fold design. As for safety, both the Joovy Zoom and the InStep Grand come with 5-point adjustable child safety harness’s, and reflectors. The InStep Grand offers reflectors on the wheels, and the Joovy Zoom 360 comes with reflective stitching. As for additional similarities, there’s not much, except that they both come with parent trays. The InStep Grand offers a molded parent tray (again, molded=plastic) with two cup holders, and the Joovy Zoom offers a neoprene parent tray, also with two cup holders and a zippered pocket.
Okay, we’ve got the similarities out of the way, let’s talk differences. The number ONE difference…….. is the price. The Joovy Zoom 360 Jogging Stroller has a listing price of $239.99, that’s $40 dollars more than the InStep Safari Grand’s listing price of $199.00. So……why does the Joovy Zoom 360 cost more? It could be because the frame itself is made out of 6061 aircraft grade aluminum, which just sounds impressive, but what does that mean? It means that the Joovy Zoom is extremely lightweight. In fact, the entire stroller weighs a total of 26.8 pounds, whereas the InStep Safari Grand weighs a whopping 33 pounds with its steel frame. Okay, so 6 pounds doesn’t seem like much, but when you factor in the weight of the Joovy Zoom’s shock absorbing suspension system, alloy rims opposed to the InStep’s plastic rims, and the fact that it holds 25 pounds more in weight, I think 6 pounds is a lot. That’s right, the InStep Safari Grand has a maximum weight limit of 50 pounds, and the Joovy Zoom 360 exceeds that weight limit by 25 pounds, making its total max weight 75 pounds. That’s quite a bit if you think about it…..Anyways, moving on. The Joovy Zoom 360 also offers a 3-inch travel, which means it sits up much taller, which also means that the handle bar is taller. Now some people might not like that, especially if you’re short, no offense. The Joovy Zoom is also missing the rear axle, this allows for maximum stride length, in other words, if your swivel wheel is locked and you go for a jog, you can really get after it! Other features that the Joovy Zoom includes and the InStep Safari Grand doesn’t, a 3-position reclining seat, running leash, and a tire pump (for emergencies only).
The InStep Safari Grand has a few cards up its sleeve as well. For instance, the faux lambskin seat pad, which is extremely comfortable and warm. The rubberized, slip resistant, adjustable handle bars. The pivoting plastic child’s tray with 2 cup holders, and the built-in MP3 speaker that allows you and your little one to listen to tunes on the trail. As for the design, the InStep Safari Grand includes an exposed spring suspension system, as well as a remote locker for your swivel wheel, which is located on the handle bar (super handy).
So, if you don’t mind spending the extra $40 dollars, the Joovy Zoom 360 Jogging Stroller is made from higher quality materials, provides an exceptionally smooth ride, gives you an extra 25 pounds of max weight, weighs about 6 pounds less, includes a reclining seat, a running leash, and tire pump (for emergencies only). For those of you who are not as impressed with the 6061 aircraft aluminum frame as I am, and feel that the adjustable, slip-resistant handle bar, child tray, built-in MP3 speaker, and remote locker sound more impressive, than the InStep Safari Grand Swivel Wheel Jogger is more your speed. All in all, both of these jogging strollers are an excellent buy. Keep in mind, the manufacturer’s recommend that neither one be used on a baby younger than 6 months. They must be able to fully support their own head before they are considered to be “safe for transport”. I hope that helps, GOOD LUCK!
