BOB Revolution SE Review:
I’ve recently had quite a few requests from readers wanting to know the difference between the 2011 BOB Revolution SE and the 2012.
The answer is… nothing. There has been no changes from 2011 to 2012, at least not that I could find. If anyone disagrees, please tell me! I have searched high and low, but have found NOTHING.
So, this review is for the 2011/2012 BOB Revolution SE.
What I Love
Coil Spring Suspension System – This is the best suspension system money can buy, and I’ll explain why. Coil springs have less of a tendency to bottom out. The reason being that as your child grows, the more the springs will compress, the more the springs compress, the more resistance they build. In other words, they will never wear out. A spring air suspension system, which is commonly found on lower end swivel joggers, has a tendency to wear out faster, because as you add more weight, they lose their resistance. Plus, the BOB Revolution SE also offers adjustable shock absorbers, which helps alleviate any excessive suspension movement. To put it simply, the BOB Revolution SE is super smooth, and you can adjust the shock absorbers according to terrain or occupancy. That’s hi-tech!
Adjustable Tracking Knob – This is a pretty neat feature as well. The BOB Revolution SE offers two modes. The walk mode, which is when the front wheel is in the swivel position, and the jog mode, which is the fixed position. The fixed wheel position is intended for light jogging, or rough terrain. The tracking knob allows you to adjust the direction of the front wheel, ensuring that you will always be traveling in a straight line. Keep in mind, it’s important to make sure that all of your tires have the same air-pressure, 30 psi is recommended. The slightest difference will throw you off.
Weight Capacity – The BOB Revolution SE offers a 70 pound weight capacity. That’s one of the highest you can get. It also offers the adjustable 5-point child safety harness, and the reclining seat that reclines up to 70 degrees from vertical. Also, the new BOB Revolution SE 2011/2012 offers a firmer seat back, which is meant to alleviate the sagging issue on the 2010 model. Another plus in my book!
Storage – I love the under-seat storage basket on the BOB Revolution SE. It’s big, and you can access it easily. Some swivel joggers offer a large storage basket, but they make it impossible to access. Not the BOB! Also, you get a nice sized pocket on the back for anything else you may require, and internal seat pockets for toys, snacks, and sippey cups.
Canopy – I love the canopy! It’s huge, and you can use the toggle system to position it exactly where you need it to be. It has 5 positions, a sun visor, and it provides 125 degrees of protection. Plus you get a nice sized viewing window so that you can keep tabs on your little one.
What I Don’t Like
The seat height should be taller, or the canopy should be more dome like. The canopy on the BOB Revolution SE comes straight out, which doesn’t allow for much head room with taller children. This was a common complaint with the 2010 BOB Revolution as well. The biggest problem then was that when the canopy was not in use, the excess material would just hang there, touching the top of your kids head. They’ve now added Velcro straps that pull the excess material back, but when the canopy is out, there is still no extra head room.
The actual recline adjustment on the BOB Revolution SE could definitely be improved. There are two straps on the back that allow you to change the seat recline from an upright, but slightly reclined, position to a near flat position. It’s kind of a pain. It takes two hands to do, and if your little one is already asleep, we’ll just say that the transition is less than smooth.
Lack of accessories! I know, same old story, but it still irritates me. The BOB Revolution SE is not the cheapest swivel jogger on the market, so having to buy the parent tray or child’s tray, or even the car seat adapter separately, just ticks me off.
That brings me to my final complaint……The PRICE! I get it, I really do. The BOB Revolution SE is state-of-the-art, the definition of quality, but come ON! It’s expensive, and if you have to sell your only child just to buy it, what’s the point!!
As far as customer satisfaction goes, the BOB Revolution SE did awesome! With 138 out of 152 rating it 4 to 5 stars. That’s a 91% customer satisfaction rating! As for complaints, most mirrored my own. The only other complaint was that the BOB Revolution SE is big and heavy. Yes, it is big, but most swivel jogging strollers are. It also offers a 70 pound weight capacity, so it has to be big. As for the weight, it’s actually one of the lighter ones, weighing only 25 pounds. Aside from that, most seemed pretty pleased with the BOB Revolution SE.
Yes, the BOB Revolution SE is expensive, and No, it’s not perfect, but nothing is. Let me remind you, the SE stands for Sport Experience, so don’t buy this jogging stroller with the intention of using it around town, at the shopping mall, or your local convenience store. You will be annoyed. It’s big, and it has a wide wheel base that allows for better stability on the trail.
