When it comes to comparing swivel jogging strollers, the Baby Jogger Summit and the InStep Grand Safari are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Even though they both offer the same general swivel jogger design, they’re really not in the same playing field. Let me explain.
First of all, both the InStep Grand Safari and the Baby Jogger Summit offer a front 12-inch locking swivel wheel, and 16-inch rear quick-release wheels. The tires are all pneumatic, in other words, air filled. Both swivel joggers also offer lightweight aluminum frames, under-seat storage baskets, 5-point child safety harness’s, parking brakes, and reflectors.
Let’s start with perhaps the biggest difference, the price. The InStep Grand Safari lists for anywhere around $135.00 to $200.00, depending on the color scheme. The Baby Jogger Summit lists for $399.99, that’s about $200 dollars more! So why does the Baby Jogger Summit costs so much more?
It could be the patented all-wheel independent suspension system, or maybe the hand-operated rear drum brakes. Maybe it’s the retractable sun shade that protects from every angle, or maybe it’s the reclining seat that reclines to a near flat position. The Baby Jogger Summit is the essence of quality, and offers one of the most sophisticated designs on the market today. It also offers a max weight capacity of 75 pounds, as opposed to the InStep Grand Safari’s 50 pounds. 25 pounds could mean another two to three years of use. The Baby Jogger Summit also offers a patented quick fold design that folds in one simple step, one-handed even.
Now I’m not saying that the InStep Grand Safari doesn’t have anything to offer, because it actually offers more extra’s than most swivel joggers. For instance, it offers a molded parent tray with two cup holders, and pivoting child tray with two cup holders, an adjustable handlebar, and an MP3 speaker that allows you and your little one to listen to tunes on the trail. It also offers a spring-air suspension system, faux lambskin seat pad for extra warmth, reclining seat, and adjustable sun shade. So you see, the InStep Grand Safari has a lot to offer as well, but it doesn’t have the high-end quality that the Baby Jogger Summit does.
As far as reviews go, both swivel joggers did really well. The InStep Grand Safari had 39 out of 49 reviewers rate it 4 to 5 stars, with 5 being the max. In other words, 80% of the reviewers were extremely satisfied with their purchase. The Baby Jogger Summit had 22 out of 27 reviewers rate it 4 to 5 stars, that’s 81% customer satisfaction.
All in all, both of these swivel joggers are well worth their price. In you’re still undecided, check out the full reviews listed below.
