The Baby Jogger City Elite is not a jogging stroller, although it comes with a locking front swivel wheel, it is intended for all-terrain “strolling” not jogging. If it were a jogging stroller, the tires would be bigger, the design would include a hand brake system, and a running leash. It can be confusing at times, trying to decipher between all the three-wheel designs on the market today. So, if you were looking at the Baby Jogger City Elite and thinking “jogging”, DON’T! That’s what the Baby Jogger Summit XC is for. But, if you were looking at this stroller and thinking, “everyday, get around town, from shopping to the park” than the Baby Jogger City Elite is by far one of the most luxurious strollers available.
Baby Jogger is top-of-the-line, and this one definitely fits that bill. The reviewers certainly seem to love it. The suspension system is super smooth, so it’s easy to push, and the front swivel wheel makes maneuvering around tight corners a breeze. The handlebar is adjustable, which is perfect for taller parents. The seat is also one of the largest, and it has the adjustable foot step, which gives the little one more support. There are so many strollers out there that have the higher weight capacity, but their seats aren’t tall enough to accommodate a child of that size. The Baby Jogger City Elite will. Also, the canopy is a nice size and it covers well, and the fold is amazing.
The only complaints I found were the fact that the seat doesn’t seem to sit upright, it’s always reclined to some extent. Also it’s a bit wide and bulky when folded, but in reality, most three wheel strollers are. The only other complaint I found was that the wheels stick out a bit far, which can be kind of a pain when you’re trying to maneuver through tight spaces. Also, the storage is minimal. The basket underneath just isn’t very big, and the nylon cups holders would be more useful if they were plastic. Of course you can buy the separate add-on cup holders for a price.
Baby Jogger City Elite 2009 Vs. 2010 Vs. 2011 Vs. 2012
There are now 3 different models of the Baby Jogger City Elite. The 2009 model, the 2010-2011 model, and the 2012 model. From 2009 to 2010 they added EVA foam filled tires, and a hand-operated parking brake. I don’t believe that there were any changes from 2010 to 2011. There has been a few improvements from 2011 to 2012. The 2012 City Elite offers an automatic fold lock, and an easy-access under-seat storage basket. Check out this article to see a full list of changes, Baby Jogger City Elite 2012 vs. 2011.
I would have given the Baby Jogger City Elite 4 stars initially, based on the fact that it’s really expensive and it comes with no extra’s, however, when it comes to customer satisfaction, the Baby Jogger City Elite received a 92% Customer Satisfaction Rating, with 55 out of 60 rating it 4 to 5 stars, and 5 being the max. That’s really, really good. It’s rare that one stroller can make so many people happy, so I’m giving it a full 5 stars.
Where to Buy:
I’ve looked around, and honestly, the BEST prices are at Amazon. You can also get the Baby Jogger City Elite 2012 at Diapers.com as well, but it’s listed for full price. Also, it’s not always clear which model is available, mainly because from 2009 to 2011, they look pretty much the same. So check the Product Specifications for the manufacturers model number before you buy. I emailed Baby Jogger directly, and this is what they told me.
