Types of Jogging Strollers
There are three main categories of jogging strollers; the Swivel Jogging Strollers, the Running Strollers, and the All-Terrain Strollers. Each one is designed for a specific purpose, whether it’s urban strolling, running a marathon, or navigating off-road trails, it all depends on how you intend to use it.
Swivel Jogging Strollers
The Swivel Jogging Stroller, aka swivel jogger, is intended to be a stroller/jogger all in one. With its front swivel wheel you can maneuver tight corners easily, and navigate busy shopping malls or sidewalks. The front swivel wheel can also be locked into a fixed position, allowing you to jog lightly or navigate your way through rough terrain. Swivel Jogging Strollers are not intended for serious running, but if you’re only interested in light jogging, occasionally, then it’s perfect. Swivel Jogging Strollers usually come with all the bells and whistles, in other words, parent trays, child trays, plenty of storage, and sometimes even MP3 speakers that allow you and your little one to listen to tunes on the trail. This is yet another reason why swivel joggers are not intended for serious running, they weigh too much with all the extra features.

Running Strollers
Running Strollers are designed for serious running. They come with a fixed front wheel that does not swivel. A fixed front wheel is safer when running at high speeds or for long periods of time. You don’t have to worry about it accidentally unlocking during a 3 mile run and abruptly turning or flipping over, ya I know, very scary. Running Strollers are simple, and usually come with the bare minimum. Most will offer some special safety features designed for runners, like wrist straps or tethers that keep you attached to the stroller while running, and hand brakes attached to the handlebar which allow for more control on steep terrain. You won’t find a bunch of extra features on a running stroller, like child trays or parent consoles, mainly because it adds too much weight. A running stroller is meant to be light. The less weight you have to push, the better you will perform.

All-Terrain Strollers
The third and final category of jogging stroller is the All-Terrain Stroller, aka urban stroller. These types of strollers also offer a swiveling front wheel that locks into a fixed position. The difference between the swivel jogger and the all-terrain stroller is that the all-terrain stroller is NOT designed for any type of jogging. In fact, you’ll notice that most all-terrain strollers come with much smaller tires, probably 8-inch as opposed to a swivel joggers 12 or 16-inch tires. The only reason that an all-terrain stroller even offers a locking front swivel wheel is so that you can navigate rougher terrain, or sidewalks, easily. Like the swivel jogger, most all-terrain strollers also come with all the bells and whistles, including parent consoles with cup holders, child trays, reclining seats, and plenty of storage.

When looking for the best jogging stroller to fit your lifestyle, regardless of which style you choose, remember that you are making an investment, so read the reviews, and study the customer feedback before you decide.
Good Luck!

Thanks a lot for bothering to line this all out for people. This kind of post was really useful to me.
very nice read, your site is great I am going to bookmark it
Great Read.
I absolutely love your blog! I found this post to be very insightful.
I just received the BOB stroller two weeks ago. -My husband and I love it! He runs 5 miles a day and he really loved the locking wheel feature. He felt that it was easy to handle and great for his runs. However, most important, my daughter loves the BOB. The seats are adjustable and she sits quite comfortably in it. She loves long walks and on the way back home from the park or library she falls asleep quite easily.
The little sunroof on top allows us to see what she is doing …or if she is about to throw a toy overbopard and we love the sunshade. I did by cup holder separately …which is annoying beacuse I think it should come with it for the price …but that is a minor detail.
So far this has been a great addition to our family and has promoted for us more jogs and walks around our neighborhood. -For me that is worth the price.
